RE: NOTICE FOR THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:

Uganda Wildlife Society (UWS) is a Non Government Organization, whose mission is to conserve wildlife and the environment in Uganda. As a constitutional requirement, every year, UWS holds an Annual General Meeting to update its members on the progress in membership development and conservation programs.

Therefore, the Uganda Wildlife Society Executive Committee is inviting all members to this year’s AGM which is scheduled to take place on 18th February 2010 at the Uganda Museum starting at 4:00 pm.

Every 2 years the term of office for some committee members expires and it is during this AGM that we shall elect members to replace them.

We therefore request you to submit nominations for Potential candidates for election to the Executive Committee to replace the out going ones.

Potential candidates are to be nominated for the following positions.

1.     Chair person

2.     Vice Chair person

3.     Three (3) committee members

Please find attached nomination form, kindly fill them and return them to the secretariat on the above address not later than 2nd February 2010 to allow ample time for preparations. You are reminded that you have to be a fully paid up member to nominate, second a nomination or to be nominated.

The agenda for the meeting will be as follows;

1.      Opening prayer

2.      Welcome remarks and brief introductions of the Executive committee and secretariat staff.

3.      Review of the previous AGM minutes

4.      Chairman’s Report

5.      Treasurer’s report

6.      Recommendations and resolutions

7.      Endorsement of the annual work plan.

8.      A talk from Joel

9.      Election of committee members

Next public talk on oil and gas development in Uganda

UWS in collaboration with WWFUganda and PEPD will hold a public talk on the environment issues associated with oil and gas development in Uganda and how these issues are being managed. The main speaker will be Dr. Henry Aryamanya-Mugisha, the Executive Director of NEMA. This public talk will take place on 26th March 2009 at 4:30pm at the Uganda Museum.

Oil and gas exploration and production dialogues

The Uganda Wildlife Society in collaboration with WWF - Uganda and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development will run a series of public talks on oil and gas exploration and production in Uganda. The first of these series took place on 11th Sept 2008 at the Uganda Museum. A programme for subsquent talks will be uploaded in due course.

Tullow Oil public hearing in Hoima

The Government has signed an agreement with a British Oil company, Tullow Uganda, to build a refinery in the oil rich Albertine region. The early production will cover the region of Kaiso-Tonya, Block 2 and parts of Lake Albert. The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has called a public hearing on 29th July at Hotel Riviera in Hoima district starting at 8:30am to get stakeholder opinions and suggestions about the proposed activities. As a way of involving and engaging its membership family members, UWS implements periodic events relating to wildlife and environment conservation. Such events include monthly public talks, which focus on topical environment and conservation issues and field excursions where members are taken out in the field to appreciate for themselves wildlife and environment in Uganda. These field excursions are made possible through cost sharing
