UGANDA WILDLIFE SOCIETY PUBLICATIONS

The series highlights the different components of access to information e.g.  what does the right of information include, importance of the right to Information, transparency, accountability, participation etc. It also discusses the legal basis for the right to information in Uganda and also looks at different case studies of power projects and how the issue of access to information manifests.

The brief talks about the current state of Uganda’s protected forest estate, indicating approximate areas (in hectares) of various forest types under different categories of ownership and management. It also explores opportunities for maintaining and expanding a permanent protected forest estate, which include marking boundaries, shifting the management focus, expanding forests on private land, joint forest management, and private sector – frontline community partnerships among others.

The brief highlights the current commercial forest value and explores opportunities for sustainable expansion of commercial forest values like Ecotourism, agroforestry and small scale forest enterprises.

The policy brief discusses the socio-economic and ecological value of Butamira Forest Reserve. It also highlights the implications of forest degazettement on other government policies.

The brief talks about the Uganda’s draft access to genetic resources regulatory frameworks and the scope of regulatory control. It goes ahead to discuss the institutional issues like administrative structure, public participation in the institutional structure, enforcement, financial  needs and mechanisms and regionalization affect/influence  access to genetic resources. It also highlights the aspects of access and prior informed consent, benefit sharing and promoting conservation and sustainable resources use, as outlined in the CBD.
