A Bi-Annual E-Newsletter of the Uganda Wildlife Society – Message from Chairperson

Dear Reader On behalf of UWS Executive Committee,

I welcome you to this Issue No.1, 2016 of UWS Today, the Society’s E-newsletter that is now biannual. In this issue No.1 2016, we give update you on progress and achievements of the Society’s values, especially our research, advocacy and policy interventions aimed at promoting conservation of Uganda’s environment, natural resources and wildlife for the benefit of humanity. As Executive Committee we are working hard to deliver on your recommendations for Society growth and sustainability. In this Issue we give you a summary on our achievements in the first half of 2016 and will deliberate more on these to you.

The Society is delighted West Bugwe Forest Adjacent Community were admitted and have successfully launched their collaborative forest management initiative. We furthermore applaud the current good working relationship between the community and the National Forestry Authority, we are grateful for the Ecosystem Alliance Support that made this development possible.

Our membership now stands at 715 and as Executive Committee we thank you members for your sustained support of the Society Conservation Efforts through your membership subscription. Members, your membership is our unique strengthen as a conservation organization. I urge you to maintain your membership, pay your annual subscriptions to keep the Society institutional core programme and secretariat running. We do not have Members on lifetime and honorary membership category yet. We need members to join in these membership categories.

We are midterm our strategic plan and there is need for us fundraising to support implementation of the programmes. Members let the secretariat know of any funding opportunities available within your networks, we welcome partners and all other support possible, please let us know your interest. You can contact me and the secretariat on this anytime.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is coming up soon, 2015 reports are ready, expect these and information about our AGM from the secretariat in the next few days. I look forward to meeting with you all then.
